Aurora Bangor 10K

On Saturday 27th September 2014, 750 or so took on the popular Aurora Bangor 10k, through the town centre and along the coast to Groomsport and back to Ward Park. First 3 men were Gary Murray (St Malachy’s AC) – 30:29, Eddie McGinley (Annadale Striders) – 31:29, and Brendan Teer (East Down AC) – 32:16.  The ladies first 3 were Louise Smith (North Belfast Harriers) – 37:56, Cathy McCourt (North Belfast Harriers) – 38:56, and Helen Stockdale (Finn Valley AC) – 39:14. Despite good packing by Dennis Scott, James Budde and Francis Marsh in in7th, 8^th and 9^th, North Down men were edged out of a very tight team team race by Annadale and North Belfast. Jessica Craig was 4^th lady and along with Nikki Heywood and Helen Irvine, the team was 2^nd to Ballydrain. There were good results in the categories by North Down athletes.  Craig McMeechan and Jamie McMeechan were 1^st and 2^nd in the U20’s while Jessica Craig was 1^st FO, Michael Stitt 1^st  M60 and Fred Murdoch 1^st M70 and several others were highly placed. A big thank you for all who sacrificed chances of glory in favour of admin or marshalling to contribute to the smooth organisation of the event.
