Ben blitzes his own NI record in Belgium

Ben Reynolds shredded his own recent Northern Ireland record at 110m hurdles on Wednesday night, taking 0.23 sec off it when he won the event at the Atlessima meeting in Namur, Belgium. Ben won the final in 13.75 (+1.8) ahead of Ali Hussein Al-Zaki after earlier winning his heat in 14.00 sec. Ben’s new time is well inside the Great Britain qualifying standard for the European U23 Championships but ironically came just two days after the selection date and he just has to hope the selectors reconsider.  Hannah Lewis also had a good result by finishing 3rd in the 200m final in 24.68 (+3.0).  Hannah is in current good form at both 200m and long jump but seems to consistently fall foul of the wind gauge. The two North Down athletes are part of a Northern Ireland team making a short tour of Belgium. They will both compete again on Saturday at the Leon Buyle meeting in Oordegem, Hannah going this time at long jump and Ben again at hurdles against a very strong-looking field.
