Ben Gets Euro Junior Spot

UKA have named 35 athletes in the first wave of selections for the European U20 Championships which will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia on 23-26 July 2009. Amongst those selected on the team is Ben Reynolds in the 110m hurdles. Ben’s selection follows a series of consistent performances over the junior hurdles this year. He started with an excellent run over 60m hurdles indoors where he placed third in the British Championships with a sub clocking of 7.95 and he has followed this up with a third place at the British outdoor, AAA U20 championships, in Bedford on the 28th June.
He has run the second fastest time in the UK this year with his personal best of 13.82 sec, clear of the GB & NI U20 selection standard of 14.00 sec. Ben is paired with Lawrence Clarke in 110m hurdles who is one of the fastest in Europe with a best of 13.66 sec.Alison Wyeth, Under 20 Team Leader said: “There was an excellent weekend of competition at the Aviva U20 trials in Bedford, and it was encouraging to see athletes clearly coming into form at the right stage of the season. The first wave of selections contains a number of athletes currently ranked in the top three in Europe, and they can now begin to focus fully on the championships ahead in order to convert those rankings to medals.”  The second and final wave of selections including relay teams will be announced week commencing 13 July 2009.
