Brendan Dominates at WPFG Decathlon

 

Representing Knock Fire Station at the World Police and Fire Games, Brendan McConville gave a commanding performance to win the decathlon on the opening two days of Track and Field action. Though his gold medal was for his 30 – 49 age group, Brendan dominated overall across the ages spectrum, winning 9 of the 10 events and placing 2nd in the high jump. His totol of 6715 points came from 100m 11.36 sec (697 points),  long jump 6.49m (699), shot 11.71m (589), high jump 1.79m (619), 400m 52.29 sec (712), 110m hurdles 15.67 sec (769), discus 37.25m (600), pole vault 4.60m (790), javelin 47.45m (551), 1500m (4:39.40 min (684).

The packed audience included many from North Down AC seniors and juniors, the Fire Station and his sons Troy and Lex. The icing on the cake came when he received the gold medal from his mentor and idol, Mike Bull who won Commonwealth gold at decathlon and twice at pole vault.
