Eight North Down AC athletes were competing in the British Milers Club/ANI invitational meet at Mary Peters track on Wednesday 19th July.
In the sprints, Jamie Moffatt clocked another sub11sec over 100m clocking with 10.94s into a slight headwind to take 2nd in the men’s race. Ethan Isles shrugged off transatlantic jet lag well to take his 800m PB sub 2minutes for the first time, clocking 1:59.47 for 2nd in the men’s 800m D race. In the men’s 800m C race, Scottish Uni bronze medalist Mark Carberry did well to run a solid 1:57.16 in 4th (after losing 2 weeks training to a recently sprained ankle). Daniel Dines smashed his 3000m PB by nearly 40 seconds to set new PB figures of 9 mins 1 3.03 seconds in the men’s 3000m B race. NI &U lster women’s 800m champion, Rachel Gibson, was straight off the plane on pacemaking duties for the women’s 3000m. In the field, Charlie Lawden threw over 50 meters again with 50.97m for 2nd in the men’s javelin. The great evening of competition ended with the inaugural NI&Ulster mixed 4x400m relay championships where the North Down AC team of Conor Adair, Lucy Cheatley, Rachel Gibson and Mark Carberry came within a second of the bronze medal (3:52.97) with all keen to give it another go next year to get on the podium!
