Also on Sunday Cara Hamilton braved the elements of the Wild Atlantic Way and undertook the full marathon at Connemara. Having completed the East Antrim marathon last week Cara is becoming accustomed to the distance, but the weather on the West coast of Ireland, even in mid April, can test the hardiest.
The driving rain, hailstones and gale force winds not only limited the visibility of the scenic countryside, but also resulted in a convoy of buses to collect runners suffering from hypothermia.
Unfortunately personal and season best times were never going to happen on such a day so to finish the race when there were so many casualties was a great achievement.
Cara promises to return when hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder to the runner.
