Celtic Cross Country Cardiff

Three of our young athletes competed in this year’s Celtic xc, which was run alongside the British Athletics Cross Challenge at Blackweir Fields, Cardiff on Sunday.

First off was Murphy Miller in the U17 race and she took the race on early to sit amongst the leading groups. Murphy managed to work up through the groups to finish in 10th place overall in the Celtic event.

Craig McMeechan was running in the U20 race for the second year in a row after last year’s Edinburgh outing. Craig also put himself up alongside the leading groups early on and with the race totalling 7K it suited well. With a lap to go, the Ulster U18 and U19 cross country champion sat in 10th position. Craig showed a return to form with progress on the latter stages of the race to finish in 7th.

The U23 race included Katie Moore, also following up on an Edinburgh appearance, and she ran with confidence in a field which included the senior and masters runners. Katie held her position throughout the 3 lap race, also totalling 7K, to finish in 10th place.

All 3 of our North Down runners were the first placed Ulster counters in each of their races. Two 10th and one 7th place finish in events where they have one year left in the same age band shows promise for the future.

Michael Dyer was part of the ANI coaching staff responsible for managing the Ulster athletes which rounded up a successful weekend for our club in Cardiff.
