North Down had five athletes in Athlone on Saturday at the Celtic Games, a junior international match for U18″s and U16″s. Matthew Martin was the most successful with 2nd in the U18 javelin with 54.72m. He also represented Ulster in the shot with 13.46m. Also at U18 level Mark Armstrong ran 200m and did the 4 x 100m relay while Kerrie Craig did high jump. In the limited number of U16 events Glen Willis ran 1500m and Beth Wilson shot putted 10.44m, her primary discus event being off the programme. In a generally unsuccessful day for Northern Ireland and Ulster athletes, the team were 4th in all the categories.
