Cliff & Noreen McCausland were back in Florida this weekend for the Miami Marathon events on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th January. Unlike the cooler temperatures they had during the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World at the beginning of January they arrived to a heatwave. Noreen ran the 5k on Saturday in 36:24 among a busy field of over 2600 runners.
Cliff lined up with nearly 14000 runners for the marathon on Sunday morning. A delay of @15 minutes to the start of his wave meant that he began tuning as the sun came up and the heat intensity continued to rise until it was well over 30ºC as he approached the half way point. Given the humidity and temperature he wisely chose the option of dropping his pace and switching to the half marathon rather than jeopardise his ongoing training for one of the upcoming world major marathons.
