In the second club promotion in two weeks Paul Pollock (Abbey) was the winner of the Crawfordsburn 5K Trail Race in 16.32. Gregory Walsh (Ballymena Runners) was 2nd, Francis Marsh (North Down) 3rd and Paul Blaney (North Belfast) 4th. Suzanne McCormick (Lagan Valley) won the womens race in 18.44 from Rachel Gibson (Lisburn) and Cara Girvan (NBH). Mark Kirk was top vet, Robert Wilson top Over 45, with Jim Newberry, Jim Hayes and David Seaton other vet category winners. Jordan Neill and Helena Dalzell top Under 20″s.Holywood medical student Paul Pollock broke away early and was never threatened by a chasing group which included Walsh, Marsh, Blaney, Mark Kirk, Eddy King, Keith Purdy and Gareth Arnott. Walsh and Blaney followed in the closing stages with a late run by Francis Marsh taking 3rd on the final hill. Suzanne McCormick was also in a class of her own in the womens race.
It was a remarkable comeback by Francis who was injured since winning the Northern Ireland Junior in January 2004 and has only resumed training in recent weeks. Jordan Neill (U20) and David Seaton (O60) were other club winners with Debbie Matchett 2nd F35 and Robin Brown and Jessica Craig taking the North Down U18 prizes. Club results were; Francis Marsh 3rd 16.46, Jordan Neill 10th 17.35, Robin Brown 31st 19.11, David Seaton 44th 20.07, Thomas Simpson 54th 20.43, Brian Smith 62nd 21.08, Jessica Craig 77th 22.12, Kerry Iveston 79th 22.22, Debbie Matchett 80th 22.40, Mark Hopkins 81st 22.44, Lauren Scott 89th 23.43, Jill Dowie 97th 24.54, Hugh Young 99th 25.21, Emer Quinn 104th 27.01.
