North Down AC was represented at each of Born 2 Run’s Dambusters races in the Mournes on Saturday 12th August. Seven Sevens runners descending Slieve Binnian or crossing Ben Crom Dam may have spotted runners approaching the dam on the road from the Silent Valley reservoir and both sets of runners may have envied the other racers and wondered who had picked the easier option by that stage!
In the 5k race starting below the Silent Valley runners crossed the dam and ran on the hilly trails of Slievenagore before crossing back to the finish line. Isla Wiltshire was 2nd female and 15th overall in 23:29 and Freya Lowry completed the tough course in 25:49.
The 10k runners followed an out and back course to Ben Crom Dam with Dean Varley claiming 3rd place in 38:34. Dean’s 16 year old nephew Josh Harley who is visiting from Canada and joined in some club training sessions finished just behind his uncle in 38:52.
In the 10 mile race the course took in some of the trails the 5k runners had used before crossing the base of Silent valley and racing to and from Ben Crom Dam. Andy Lowry finished 7th in 1:05:02.
