North Down AC remembered one of their founder members, Daphne Hamill by hosting a track and field meeting in her memory at the Mary Peters Track on Saturday 27th May. Many of North Down AC’s athletes were in action against some of the finest talent from Northern Ireland and further afield and across all athletic disciplines, with an incredible number of athletes setting PBs on the track and at throws and jumps. The depth of talent in the club was further emphasised by the same athletes achieving PBs across different events with limited recovery time on a warm afternoon. Some of the highlights included Rachel Gibson winning the 800m and 400m double, setting season’s best times in both. Craig McMeechan’s late surge down the home straight in the men’s 800m A race also saw him win with a season’s best time. Full results are available at
Jamie Moffatt won the men’s 100M SM2 race with a PB of 10.90. In the men’s 100m U17 race Conor Adair won with a PB of 11.73 while Curtis Hughes was second setting a new PB of 12.17. Ryan Hamilton a 4th in the same race in 12.23, only 0.04 seconds short of his PB. Eve Walsh-Dann won the 100M SW race in 14.27. In the age group 100M races Ruby Sterrett set a PB of 13.51 as she took second place. Alice Stewart was fouth in the 1U13 race and Nyla Hughes took second place with a PB of 15.59 in the 2U13 race.
In the 200m races Conor Adair won the men’s B are with a PB of 23.79. Curtis Hughes was fifth with aPB of 24.95. Ryan Hamilton was second in the U17M race in 25.26 and Anna Moran achieved a PB as she took sixth place at U17W. Ruby Sterrett set a PB to finish second in the U15W race in 28.35. Results are unavailable for the 1 U13W race but Alice Stewar, Isla Wiltshire and Caitlyn Dickenson finished in second, third and fourth position. in the 2 U13W race Nyla Hughes was third with a PB of 32.95 and Emily Stewart was fourth in 34.56.
Conor Adair took fourth place in the SM400M in 56.12 while Rachel Gibson won the first of her races, the SW400M in 60.09.
The SM800M A race saw Craig McMeechan the first place in 1:57.90. Ethan Isles fifth place time of 2:00.97 was also a PB. In the B race Jack Russell, second in 2:04.23 and Chris Moran, sixth in 2:10.04 both recorded PBs. In the U15M 800M Aodhan Keag’s fourth place in 2:17.80 was a PB. Alex Downey came fifth in 2:19:41 and James Blease’s tenth place in 2:47.31 was a season’s best. Carter Rolston set a PB to finish third in the U13 event in 2:29.21 with Sebastian Mairs finishing sixth in 2:40.14. Rachel Gibson won her second race of the afternoon, the 800m A race in 2:10.30 while in the B race both North Down Ac athletes set new PBs, Connie Hanna in third place in 2:28.87 and Ellie Dines, sixth, in 2:46.92. Holly Blease took seventh pace in the U15 race in 2:37.19. The three girls form the club in the U13 race all set PBs, Isla Wiltshire, second in 2:44.74, Coco Smith fourth in 2:51.87 and Caitlyn Dickenson in sixth in s:54.88.
In the senior men’s 3000M A race Jamie McMeechan was fourth in a season’s best performance of 9:40.27. Daniel Dines, eight, set a PB of 9:51.46 and Francis Marsh was ninth in 9:55.13 The mixed 3000M B race was won by Jason McMinn in a season’s best time of 10:11.17. Alasdair Mair’s third place was a PB of 10:24.12. Fourth place went to Aaron McAuley with a PB of 10:38.10 followed by Fiona McQuillan taking a new PB of 10:42.30 in fifth. Alan McConnell was sixth in 10:45.26 and the eight and ninth finishers, David Massey 11:10.48 and Tim Cooke, 11:16.43 also broke their PBs.
Isla Wiltshire was back in action in the U13W 70M hurdles, winning with a season’s best performance of 14.28. Caoimhe Fenlon was second in the U15 75m hurdles setting a PB of 13.03. James Blease set a new PB to take first in the U15M hurdles in 18.47.
The U15W High Jump was won by Maisie Rainer in 1.30, a notch above second placed Holly Blease whose jump of 1.25 was a PB. In the U13 event Coco Smith won with 1m.
Over at the Long Jump pit Ryan Hamilton set a new PB of 4.82m to take the U17M event. In the U15 M jump Aodhan Keag was second with a PB of 4.84 ahead of anther Pb from Ethan Constable in third with 4.32. James Blease was fourth in 3.23. Anna Moran set a PB to come third in the U17W event, jumping 4.76. In the U15W Caoimhe Fenlon set another PB of 4.06 ahead of Holly Blease in third with 3.45. Nyla Hughes an Coco Smith were back in action in the U13 event taking second and fourth places respectively. Nyla’s jump of 3.74 was a PB while Coco recorded 3.02.
Kurtis Mcdonagh threw 7.93 in the 5k SM shot put finishing second with a PB of 7.93m. Anna Moran added to her afternoon’s achievements winning the U17W event with a PB of 8.55. Caoimhe Fenlon’s busy afternoon continued as she took second place in the U15W with a season’s best throw of 8.51.
Calum Spain won the men’s U20 1.75kg discus with a throw of 29.13 while Ian McMullan set season’s bests winning the 2kg discus in 37.56m and the 7.26kg hammer in 30.40m. Hollie Stitt was third on the U17W 3kg hammer, throwing 21.62m.
Andrew Brown set a PB as he won the 800 javelin in 34.64m and Hanah Louden won the 500 javelin in 26.26.
