On Wednesday evening, close to two thousand runners were at Stormont Estate for the annual ‘Run in the Dark’ 5k and 10k races; organised to raise funds for the Mark Pollock Trust. Official ‘Run in the Dark’ events also took place in Dublin, Cork, Manchester and London. North Down AC was well represented and in the 5K race Dennis Scott put in a strong performance, covering the tough course in 17:40 min for 1st place. In the womens race Ange Perrott recorded 21:06, sealing 3rd place with Ali Robinson and young Zara Mulholland 5th and 6th in 22:47 and 24:12.
In the 10k race, Andrew Muir was the leading club athlete, appropriately enough as the Mark Pollack Trust is one of his 3 Mayoral Charities. Andrew ran 45:25 with John McGarvey 47:20, Nikki Heywood 48:06, Paul Duffy 49:39, Marie Devine 52:11, Janet Toal 57:02 and Pat O’Driscoll 63:00. Apologies to athletes we have missed as some scorers just refuse to help identification by showing club affiliations.
