The Edwards & Co Super 5 Series – the latest incarnation of the Lagan Valley Thursday Meets – opened the domestic track season at Mary Peters on Thursday night. There was no wind but it was cold by the time the 1500"s took place, well after 9.30pm. The womens race was won in 5:01 min with Lauren Scott 3rd in 5:02.3 min and Nicola Simpson 4th in 5:03.8 min. Both were pb"s though Lauren wanted to get under 5mins (pace just a bit too slow in first 200 and on 3rd lap). Nicola ran an intelligent race and was miles inside her pb. In the mens 1500m Niall Robinson led out to 10000m in 62, 68 and 68 min laps so only about 4:06 pace at the bell. Mark Patterson took the lead with about 300m to go and was 1st in 4:03.2 min with Jordan Stokes 3rd in 4:06.0 min and Niall 3rd in 4:06.2 min. Terry Eakin had a crack at the M60 Irish record of 4:59 and ran 5:02.5 min. In the U15 girls Alex Catherwood long jumped 3.88m and in the U17"s Beth Wilson won the discus with 26.53m and Darragh McDonough was 2nd in the boys shot with 8.93m.
