No stranger to endurance events, Donald took on the #496challenge once again during January. The challenge entails running 1km on the 1st January, 2km on the 2nd, 3km on the 3rd and so on, adding 1km to each day’s run until the gruelling final week, cumulating with a 31km run on the 31st adding up to 496 kilometres for the month. Donald enjoyed exploring the trails in Cairn Wood and the Clandeboye estate, the North Down coastal path, the quiet roads between Whiterock and Nendrum and even managed to include some runs in the Scottish Highlands earlier in the month. North Down AC club mates including Seán Nickell and Gerry O’Boyle paced him during some of the longer runs before the final 31km run which took in the trails around parliament buildings completing the challenge with a final climb from the Comber Greenway to Scrabo Tower.
