Double success at Team Trophy

kenny & gemmaKenny Elliott and Gemma McAnirn led their teams from the front at a windy and showery Antrim Forum as North Down battled to victory in both men and womens categories at the Team Trophy. It may have not been our top success athletically and it was certainly not pretty but it was probably the most satisfying result of all. Partly because it was competive and every point in every event counted but because it was youth-based with a new generation of track athletes carrying the torch. There were some strong performances from established athletes – Hannah Lewis was immense at 100m, long jump and 4 x 100m, Kathy Hetherington twice added a metre to her ddiscus pb and won shot, Lauren Scott ran 10:03 in her first ever 3000m and Mark Patterson ran a 1500m pb. But at the end of the day it was an arm wrestlle for both men and women and it was the kids wot won it.
