The first of this year’s Edwards Meetings took place at a chilly Mary Peters Track on Friday night. It was hail to the 2012 track season and farewell to the track, at least in its current form. Work immediately starts on an upgrade which will see it out of action this season.
Oliver Wakefield was an easy winner of the U15 200m in a pb of 25.90 sec although he struggled with his run-up in the long jump. Other U15’s were Clare Francis with 2:44.07 min at 800m and Olivia Cumming with 28.78 at 200m while Taylor Irwin ran 33.79 at U13 200m. Of the senior athletes, Kenny Elliott won the 200m with 22.97, close to his best and Gareth Lyness had pb’s at 200m and long jump with 25.34 sec and 5.34m. Rachel Gibson was 2nd at 800m with 2:21.4 min and Tom Reynolds had 6.34m at long jump and 37.13m at discus. Paul Curran aged us all by celebrating his 35th birthday and masters status with a return to the track after a long hiatus, recording 25.70m at 200m and 30.64m at discus.
