Fermanagh Cross Country

On Saturday 8th February, the inaugural Fermanagh Cross Country Championships took place at Necarne Estate, Irvinestown and comprised the penultimate stage of the Athletics NI Cross Country League 2013-14. Thanks to the 9 North Down men who headed North, the mens team defied the heavy conditions and squally weather to take 2nd in the team race to City of Derry and collected vital participation points in the league. The scoring 4 were Stephen Wylie 6th in 30:52 min, Dennis Scott 7th in 30:58, Mark Weir 16th and 2nd M40 in 33:06 and Charles McNutt 36th in 35:17. The all important support came from Paul Galloway 51st in 40:25, Norman Lellyett 60th and M65 winner in 44:48, John McGarvey 61st in 45:23 and Trevor Patterson in 46:20. Good job guys.

City of Derry AC team were already well clear in the league and the win on Saturday makes them secure. North Down men are practically as safe in 2nd and with the last round at Stormont, a more or less home valley,

No such comfort zone for the womens team who had held a comfortable margin in 3rd but the non-appearance in Fermanagh leaves them needing to step up considerably at Stormont on Saturday week.
