First African Win a Club Handicap: Smith Shield & Winter Awards

[Not a valid template]North Down Springbok Norman Lellyett tore up the recent form book on Saturday morning to win the annual Spring Handicap over the Crawfordsburn Trail by 45 seconds. Second was defending champion and Handicap Master Charlie McMutt Sr, winner of the two most recent club handicaps for the Smith and Hawtin Shields. Third off scratch and fastest net time of the day was Corey Brown while Catherine Roberts was first lady home with Valerie McDonough the fastest.

The course was in immaculate shape and well laid out by Norman himself and the full course was in use. Corey ran 19:54 min for the fastest net time with Charlie and Thomas Simpson both on 20:25. Valerie ran 23:33, two seconds faster than Nikki Heywood.
