Glen Takes Smith Shield

[Not a valid template][Not a valid template]]Glen Willis continued the recent run of club handicaps going to youngsters and easily won the club Spring Handicap for the Smith Shield over the Crawfordsburn Trail. In good though windy conditions Terry Eakin, Marcus McAuley and Tony Wall took the next positions. Francis Marsh had the fastest net time of the day with 18:09 min with James Budde 18:39 min, Niall Robinson 18:43 min and Brian Barron 19:07 min.

Stephanie Hambling was the first lady home and also the fastest with 23:54 min. Glen’s 19:52 min should really be a an U15 course record but more changes in the course were made due to construction of a new bridge though the distance was approved by the GPS brigade. After the race, the presentations were made for the 2007-2008 club cross country awards.Glen, who runs for Ireland next week in the Schools International XC, and Terry got away but on the whole the handicapping was pretty good with little separating the majority and thanks are due to all who helped mark the course and did the recording.

The club awards were made to athletes who excelled in the recent cross country season but it has been another successful season and congratulations to all who have contributed.
