Golden Four No 3 – Bangor

North Down more or less wrapped up the men and women’s Golden Four Leagues with a round to go, certainly the mens. Effectively the league is won. The high point was a second to Eddie McGinley in the 3000m by Jordan Neil plus a win in the 1500m in an event in which he is technically too young. The low point was a nasty fall by Amy Foster at the end of the 100m when she was 4th in the mixed race.

Amy ran in lane 2 and was really motoring but just went down near the finish. Fortunately she seemed OK afterwards. She did get over the line and claimed the womens race.

McGinlay ran 9.00.7 in the 3000m with Jordan second throughout with a time of 9.16.3. He then ran the 1500m and ran 4.25.2, winning an event in which he was meant to be pacemaking. Armagh won the 3000m team race with North Down second with or without Jordan. James Budde passed time between 3000m and 1500m by winning the javelin, admittedly not by much.

An airline mix-up after the Europa Cup sent Brendan McConville‘s poles adrift but they are now in London awaiting the next British League match. Until then he is really playing with the event. Field events were pretty much a formality but it was good to have more girls out. Kerry Iveston had a pb in the 400m as did Janine Munnis in the javelin.

Rhiannon McNally of Craigavon AC broke her own Northern Ireland Intermediate hammer record with 43.86m.
