Eva Massey again won the Shot at the Irish Indoor Championships at the Odyssey Arena last night with 15.52 metres. Laura Cogan of Newbridge had an Irish Junior record of 12.88 in second with Rhiannon McNally of Orchard County setting a best of 11.18 in third. Sunday started well with a bronze for Jeremy Harper in the Mens Shot with a pb of 13.42 metres and at the 200m finals near the end there was excitement galore.
[Not a valid template][Not a valid template]Amy Foster won her first Irish Senior title by winning the “A” final in an indoor pb of 24.90 secs. Minutes later Dorothée Marchal won the “B” final with 25.83. John Saulters tried to keep the run going in the Mens “B” final but settled for a close 4th. Amy also reached the 60m final and was 6th in a strong field including guests in 7.74 (7.71 in the semi final), a Northern Ireland Junior best as was the 200m time) and Dorothée reached the semi finals.
At 400m John ran 50.87 secs and Tom Patton ran 51.61. After two no jumps Jason Blanc settled for a safe 5.82m for 10th in the Long Jump. The middle distance boys went for the 1500m with Francis Marsh running a good 4:07.58, Michael Dyer 4:08.43 and James Budde 4:10.78 for 12th, 13th and 15th.
The NIAF/Ulster age group Championships were held alongside attracting a large number of club athletes. Good results included wins at Long Jump for Katie Hewitt and 60m for Kathryn Colwell, 2nd at Shot for Conor McGrattan and a 3rd at High Jump for Kerrie Craig while the basket carriers again did sterling work.
