Good Performances in Dublin at Inter Counties

It was a change of vest on Sunday when a number of athletes from Northern Ireland attended the Woodies DIY AAI Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Santry, Dublin; with North Down and East Down athletes combining in a Connty Down team. The team finished 12th in the Senior 10K and collected silver medals in the “C” Division Championship. Reesults were Brendan Teer (East Down) 55th 34:15, Andrew Annett (Mourne Runners) 78th 35:41, Francis Marsh 88th 35:41, James Budde 94th 36:10, Neil McCartan (EDown) 95th 36:14, Dennis Scott 103rd 36:39, Stephen Wylie 117th 38:04, Nick Irvine 143rd 41:31.

The womens events produced good individual results with Katie Moore 20th in the 4K Junior Race and Rachel Gibson and Melissa Eccles 27th and 44th in the 8K Senior Race. Rachel was 5th U23 as well as 2nd NI girl. The All Ireland even age Championships also took place with Mollie Brown having a good run in the girls U14 Championships though we do not yet have the results for the age group races.

A later update of the results shows that Mollie Brown was a brilliant 13th in the U14 girls race but the overall published results are frankly sloppy.  Rachel and Melissa plus the entire North Down junior athletes originally had a wrong club designation and only Rachel and Mollie were corrected. Thats especially unfair on the U14 girls who had a scoring team. For the record the correct Junior placings were Murphy Miller 90th U12 girl,  Charlie Alexander 147th U12 boys and in the U17 girls Mollie Brown 13th, Jessica Scott 32nd, Lauren Hamilton 84th and Anna Scott 101st.
