Katie Hewitt won the NI U20 Championship (and the senior event by default) at the weekend at a sometimes windy, often wet, Antrim Stadium. Katie’s score of 3728 points was a slight increase on her pb and included an equal pb at 200m and a pb at javelin. Her results were 100m hurdles 16.55 sec (-3.2) 637 pts; high jump 1.39m 502 pts; shot 7.55m 383 pts: 200m 27.27 secs (-1.3) 690 pts; long jump 4.90m 532 pts: javelin 26.91m 418pts; 800m 2:40.59 min 566 pts. Katie was the only North Down competitor at the Championships with the decathletes injured or unavailable.
Sean McMahon (BAAC) won the senior decathlon with Conor McLaughlin (Strabane)and Matthew Ramsey (REgent House) winning at U20 and U17 level. Rebecca McAllister (BAAC) won a very competitive U17 girls heptathlon.
