The annual races took place on Sunday around the residential streets of Raheny. With a variety of races including masters age groups North Down settled for one team in each of the senior ladies and mens races.
The ladies team of Rachel Gibson, Jessica Craig and Katie Moore negotiated 4 miles in the form of 1mile, 2 miles and then 1 mile.
At the end of the first leg Rachel was in touch with the leaders when clocking 5:15 and passed the baton to Jessica who ran a strong 2 miles in 11:01, which then left Katie to tie up the final 1 mile leg in 5:41.
This gave the girls a very creditable 5th place finish, just less than a minute behind the winners, Queens University.
James Budde, Francis Marsh, Craig McMeechan and Dennis Scott made up the men’s team that had 8 miles to cover, 2m, 1m, 3m and 2m.
James set the team off on the first 2 miler and was lucky to avoid a serious tumble on the opening lap where one of the fallers broke his collar bone. Despite this James made it round in 10:19 to set Francis off on his 1 mile leg which he duly completed in 4:59.
Craig took on the 3 mile loop next and managed to move up one place when recording 15:44 which left Dennis Scott to complete the final 2 miles on his birthday – 10:31. The men were placed 19th which is an indication of the quality on show, with their cumulative 8 mile time 41:33.
