Irish Schools Cross Country

It was Ulster’s turn to host the climax to the Irish schools cross country season which took place at Mallusk on Saturday. Ten of our young athletes competed after qualifying from the Ulster schools which were also at Mallusk a little over two weeks ago.

In the Minor girls Tara McDonough steered away from the fallers at the start of her race to finish 14th and Amelia Tyler followed in 26th. The Junior girls saw five of our runners compete and Megan Briggs, leading the St Columbanus team, was first of them to return in 14th.

Caitlin Turner, also wearing a St Columbanus vest, was next in 20th and then Freya Adams, who was running in an older age band to boost the Strathearn junior girls team, made it home in 32nd. Alisha Turner ran well to finish in 44th before Sophie Kenny crossed the line in 67th.

Ulster Schools winner Murphy Miller ran in the Inter girls and feeling the worse for wear managed to finish 45th. Very unlucky timing to have an infection, hopefully Murphy recovers soon. Thomas Patterson then had a creditable return of 23rd in the Inter boys after tracking the leaders early on.

In the Senior age bands Rio Catney was first Ulster finisher when she recorded a 12th place finish and the boys race featured Craig McMeechan who had a decent 7th place.
