Strong winds coupled with periods of rain made for difficult conditions at Santry for this year’s Irish Championships.
Rachel McCann competed in the 400M where she qualified from the heat with a time of 56:89. Rachel then ran 57:84 in the final where she finished in 8th place.
Rachel Gibson recorded 4:45:88 in a tactical 1500M heat which wasn’t quick enough to qualify for the final and in the mens Javelin Charlie Lawden threw 40:11 for 10th place.
Craig McMeechan ran in the A 5000M race which was ran as a straight final along with B and C races. A fast pace developed from early on in the 12.5 laps which strung the field out. Sitting in a pack off the leaders, Craig moved through the group in the final stages to record a 7 second PB, 14:33:28 , 12th place, which also broke the North Down club record over the distance. Interestingly Craig’s one mile splits for the race were 4:30 – 4:38 – 4:31.
