The Irsh University Championships were hosted by Queens University and held on Friday and Saturday at Antrim Forum. Tom Reynolds (UU) had a huge day on Friday, winning the combined events (pentathlon) and also taking medals at 110m hurdles (gold) and shot (bronze). Strong, swirling winds throughout, particularly on Saturday, took the edge off performances but Amy Foster (UU) was unbeaten throughout, winning semi finals and finals in 100m on Friday and 200m on Saturday mking light of the 2m headwinds. These strong performances played a large part in the University of Ulster taking 2nd in the mens point table (to the inevitable DCU) and 3rd in the combined table.
Middle distance and jumps were tough against the strong wind. Jessica Craig (UU) doubled up again in 1500m and 3000m, finishing 4th and 6th respectively in the finals. Niall Robinson (QUB) was 3rd in the 800m semi final and 5th in the final. Laura Loughlin (QUB), who played a huge part behind the scenes at the Championships, was 5th in the triple jump.
