Jimmy’s 10K Downpatrick

Jimmy’s 10K is organised in memory of Jimmy Murray, Downpatrick school teacher and athletics enthusiast who was one of the founding members of East Down AC in 1987.

This year Jimmy’s 10k is the first race in the newly formed Novosco 10K Grand Prix. To enter the Grand Prix runners will submit their entry to each individual race in the normal fashion and the race organiser will provide the relevant entry data to the Novosco 10K Grand Prix organisers. You can register for Novosco 10K Grand Prix at (http://www.novosco10kgrandprix.com/registration)

North Down AC had 32 runners in the first 10K of the series and on a day which saw the weather dramatically improve to somewhat spring like weather, our athletes enjoyed success and pb’s.

Francis Marsh 1st O50, Terry Eakin 1st O65 and Jamie McMeechan 1st U20 were the highlights, but on a deceptively difficult course our runners performed well within the 813 strong field.

Dennis Scott, preparing for his charity run in and out of work this week was our first runner in 6th (33:39), followed by Jamie Budde in 9th (34:08) and Francis Marsh in 10th (34:10). NDAC Grand Prix mens leader Jamie McMeechan was next in 20th place clocking 36:10. Niklas Arkensparr was marginally over the 37 mark by one second, and Jodi Smith, in preparation for the Home Countries cross country next weekend, finished our first female in 39:27 and 3rd FO35 with Eamon O’Reilly completing the mens sub 40 min time barrier with 39:39.

Jodi, our ladies Grand Prix leader, was followed by Julie Balmer, making a steady return to competitive running with 42:11 and Valerie McDonough in 43:19. Joanne Moran and Helen Byers finished next within 9 secs of each other.

Dennis’s charity run is in aid of Jengana appeal. The following link is where you can contribute:
