Jodi Smith recorded a great victory in the ladies Intermediate race at Gransha on Saturday. Having had an equally strong run at Greenmount recently the scene was set for Jodi to succeed in this race and by winning the race Jodi helped the North Down ladies team to 3rd place in the highly competitive team event. The remaining team consisted of Sarah Lindsay 6th, Jessica Scott 22nd and Valerie McDonough 26th. Nia McNally provided great back up finishing in 30th.
In the ladies Masters event Clare Kennedy was first return in 28th followed by Valerie McDonough’s 32nd place finish, Helen Byers 45th and Joanne Moran 51st.
We didn’t have any entrants in the Mens Intermediate event, perhaps in years to come we can tackle this race with some up and coming talent. In the Masters race however, James Budde had an excellent showing in the 8K race finishing in 8th in a quality field. Mark Weir had a strong run to complete in 39th and Colin Walker followed in 58th. Philip Mulligan was next in 61st before Alan Massey crossed the line in 83rd, and Robert Martin was right behind in 84th. Donald Smith tackled the relative sprint event by finishing 96th and team captain John McGarvey ushered his team in with a 102nd place finish.
