The ANI Open Indoor Meeting, held on Saturday at the Jordanstown High Performance Centre, proved very popular with an entry far exceeding any meeting held previously and shaming most outdoor Open Meets. The handful of North Down athletes taking part proved the effectiveness of their winter training. Alex Catherwood was 3rd in a highly competive high jump with her 1.60m jump not only an outright pb but a North Down indoor record. Alex will miss the upcoming Odyssey Irish Championships but will compete in March at the Scottish Indoor Championships. Beth Wilson also had an outright pb in winning the shot with 9.83m, second only to Eva Massey in the North Down indoor list. Oliver Wakefield moved seamlessly into the U15 category and did not look out of place against much older opposition with 7.98 sec for 60m, 10.05 sec for 60m hurdles and 4.95m lor long jump. His hurdles time is a North Down U15 record though it looks unlikely to survive the Odyssey. Gareth Lyness ran 8.08 for 60m and long jumped 5.63m.
