Laganside 10k – ANI championships

For various reasons, the men’s and women’s teams were below ideal strength to compete for team medals in the ANI championships incorporated in the Laganside 10k.  Nevertheless there were some solid North Down performances and pbs achieved. Dennis Scott was first home in 9th in a new pb of 33:45, however Stephen Wylie had been on course to dip under 33:00 until he stepped on some glass (ouch!) and had to drop out. Mark Weir ran a well paced race to place 21st in 35:15, while Brian Barron paid for his fast start, slowing to 35:55. Next in came Chris Speers in 37:48 with Ben Caughers not that far behind, smashing his pb with 37:59. Terry Eakin took the M60 category win in 38:58. First North Down women home was Rachel Gibson in 8th (39:20) followed by Katie Moore setting a pb 43:07 as did Nikki Heywood with 44:04. Paul Galloway was next in 46:26, then Helen Irvine in 48:57.
