North Down had a great turnout at the popular Larne 10 mile road race on Saturday, perhaps inspired by inclusion of the race in the club’s Grand Prix series. In recent years Larne has hosted the well known Larne half marathon and now the 10 miler is an interesting addition to the town’s racing portfolio. Well done to all of our runners who raced over the distance, especially 37 year old Philip Mulligan on a super sub 70 min time. It is too much to expect great weather at this time of year and while it was clear blue skies, the wind played havoc on the return leg of the race.
The club had one runner sub 60 minutes, Ricky Jordan clocking 59:41 and a further 11 athletes making it under the 70 minute mark.
Chris Moran was agonisingly close to 60 mins with 60:11 while training partner Steven Donegan made it home in 61:11.
Ben Caughers 62:33, Melissa Eccles 65:22 and 5th Female, Andy Lowry 66:38, Fiona McQuillan 66:59, Nick Anderson 67:10, Philip Mulligan 67:19, Stephen Wise 68:06, Aaron McAuley 69:17 and Les Wilkinson 69:59 rounding up the sub 7 minute mile pace results.
