After weeks and months of marathon training 4 of North Down’s athletes took to the streets of London to complete this years race. On a day which was widely considered perfect for marathon running with the chill in the air our runners all had a successful run around the city.
Nicklas Arkensparr completed the event in a swift 2:54:40, comfortably below the 3 hour mark. Colin Walker, relishing the whole experience, finished in 3:31:53 with Steve Wise arriving just over a minute later in 3:33:07 after having been over 6 minutes behind Colin at half way.
Lynne Kerr arrived on the Mall having run a steady race to finish in 3:44:06 bringing all of our athletes in easily under 4 hours.
The North Down vest was also seen running around Dusseldorf with Robert Martin sticking to his plan and coming in under 3:25 with a 3:24:55. Well done Rab.
In addition, Terry Eakin also won the M60 category at the Southampton Half Marathon at the weekend clocking 1:30:29 in the process.
Mini Marathon
As a prelude to the main event the age grouped mini marathon was contested over a flat three-mile course and incorporated the British Championships for the distance. This year our only participant was Craig McMeechan in the senior boys race. He covered the trip in 14:34 placing him 8th and 2nd Northern Ireland finisher.
Well done to all of our athletes.
