University of Ulster had too much firepower in the University Match on Wednesday at Mary Peters and regained the Londonderry Trophy from a battling Queens University squad. North Down had members on both sides as well as some guests.
For UU Eva Massey had a seasons best in winning the shot with 14.41m and was 2nd in her first hammer event for 5 years with 32.86m. Jessica Craig did the hard yards with races of 800m and 3000m plus the opening leg of the 1200-400-800-1600m relay, all within less than half an hour of each other. She said she was tired.
For Queens Niall Robinson won the 800m in 1:56.57 min and did the opening 1200m of the relay. Nicola Simpson was 2nd at 800m with a pb of 2:20.25 min and also did the 1200m relay leg. John Saulters was another workhorse with a 200m, 800m and relay leg, Laura Loughlin did long jump and a useful 8.95m for 2nd at shot to Eva and Gemma McAnirn covered hammer and shot.
Guesting were Jeremy Harper with a 13.43m shot, Terry Eakin at 3000m and Tom Reynolds who showed them the multi event way, 200m, long jump, high jump and shot, three of them at the same time.
