Londonderry Trophy – UUJ v QUB

Jordanstown beat Queens somewhat comprehensively at Mary Peters to regain the Londonderry Trophy at an event meant to kick start the track season. In weather that was diabolical, even by recent standards, performances meant little or nothing and distances were “off track” anyway. With John Saulter competing for Queens and Neil Dougan for Jordanstown, North Down could afford to be neutral and Richard Lockhart seemed to be the sole survivor of the NI U20 team. Richard however had the satisfaction of extending his 4 day old club Senior Hammer record to 39.51m.

Non combatants really needed a compelling reason to be there. With a decathlon in Italy early in May, Brendan McConville needed some kind of workout and did 60m, 300m and shot. Michael Dyer did 600m and now heads back to Loughborough and like all students has rapidly approaching championships. Still, better days will come.
