Malcolm Cup Meeting in Ballyclare

The Malcolm Cup cross country meeting, hosted by Annadale Striders, took place in Ballyclare on Saturday. The two club Captains did a good job in getting squads for this, Round 5 of the ANI XC League, though a few names were unavailable. Though both team races were tight, things did not go the North Down way and both men and women appear to be 5^th. Top result was Jessica Craig with 3^rd place in the ladies race, again battling triathlete opposition. Dennis Scott in 9^th was the 1^st North Down man in the Malcolm Cup. Terry Eakin was the top M65 runner. In the age group races, the club junior runners did exceptionally well.

The ladies were on first at 1.15 pm and had sensibly left by the time most men arrived for the 3.00 pm Malcolm Cup so we didn’t really see each other. There were good age group results in the interim with Murphy Miller winning the U13 girls and Jessica Scott and Anna Scott were 1^st and 3^rd U15 girls. Barney Miller and Finlay Miller also competed as well as newish recruit Annie Webster. In the 3 mile ladies race, Jessica Craig in 3^rd led the way, the other scorers being Sarah Benton in 35^th, Julie-Anne Donaghy in 52^nd and Marie Devine in 67^th.

In the 4 mile mens race for the Malcolm Cup, now the property of City of Derry AC, Dennis Scott was 9^th and Francis Marsh 16^th. They were backed up by Oxford-based Ed Mezzetti, 29^th in what we hope will be regular outings for the club and by Mark Weir 36^th in his first race after a 3 month injury lay-off. Five more men and three more girls completed the squads, bringing in most of the league points collected.
