Mallusk once again hosted the series of cross country races organised by Mallusk Harriers. Primary school races were first off and the club was well represented at the sharp end of the results with 3 runners finishing within the top 5.
Carter Rolston led the way as he once again finished 1st followed by Seb Mair in 3rd and Ethan Wiltshire 5th. Young Harry Garrad made it home in 17th spot while Reuben Dunne and Isaac Foord were inseparable in 25th and 26th and Lucas Mair 40th.
The U13 boys saw Ethan Constable return in 14th place while Bailey Duncan was 22nd and in the U13 girls we had a good turnout with Isla Wiltshire claiming 5th place, Erin Playfair 10th, Caitlyn Dickenson 21st, Freya Lowry 22nd and Grace Foord 26th.
Ollie Playfair had another good outing as he finished 4th in the U15 boys as Chris Belshaw returned in 15th.
Our ladies had 16 runners toe the line for the 3 laps of up and down the tiers of pitches. Fiona McQuillan was never far from the front as she finished in 8th position followed by Clair Quigley in 17th and Lindsay Doulton in 25th.
Valerie McDonough had Lisa Tomalin for company as they finished in 30th and 31st while Sarah Gibson and Abby Andrews finished similarly, 46th and 47th. Julie Wilson claimed 51st spot and Emma Fox completed the circuit in 62nd followed by June McMinn in 68th.
Glynis Boyle finished shortly afterwards in 72nd and Paula Simpson made it home in 87th. Wendy Neely negotiated the hills with ease to complete in 109th before Hannah Dunne finished in 121st, Lisa McMeechan 124thand Cara Jeffrey 125th. In the same race Pat O’Driscoll secured an age group win finishing 37th. A decent return for the ladies which was enough for 2nd team place. Following last week’s success in the North West, a good couple of weeks running.
Of the 10 men who attended Mallusk Gareth Watton was our first to cross the line in 10th place. James Graham was next in 26th and Ricky Jordan was close behind in 31st before David McKeague returned in 38th place.
Tadhg Ryan Charleton made a welcome return to the mud finishing in 53rd, a mere 6 seconds and 3 places ahead of Dennis Scott in 56th. Kevin Harkin returned in 66th and David Massey was placed at 78th as team captain Steven Donegan, protecting an injury, finished in 90th spot. Tim Cooke crossed the line in 151st position.
Following the men’s win last week they came so close to making it two weeks in a row, losing out on the team win by two places. Hopefully the ND team will be back to full strength, after this week’s illness depletions, at the Stormont cross country in a little under 4 weeks time.
