Medal Success at Irish Indoors

A quartet of U18 North Down athletes headed down to Athlone IT on Sunday for the Glohealth Athletics Ireland Juvenile indoor champs, all returning with PBs. Olivia Cumming set a PB of 60.36s placing 2nd in her 400m heat, before finishing 6th in the final. Saskia Greer also set a PB of 8.30s for 3rd in her 60m heat, before placing 7th in the final (8.38s). On the boys side Luke Adair set PB of 8.11s in the heats of the U16 60m but didn’t make the final.  In the U18 1500m, Reece Simpson took another 2sec off his recent PB, with 4:26.16 for 13th in the final.

Day 3 of the Glohealth Athletics Ireland Juvenile Indoor championships took place on Sat 28th at the AIT Arena in Athlone and there were yet more PBs for the North Down athletes taking part.  Jonny Moore, competing in his first Irish championships, had to wait until late afternoon to compete in the long jump but didn’t disappoint.  He set a new PB with his opening leap of 4.74m and followed this up with a very consistent series of jumps to finish 7th in the U14 boys long jump.  Aaron Sexton ran close to his PB in the heats of the U16 200m going even better in the final when he dipped under 23s for the first time.  In one of the closest races of the afternoon Aaron ran 22.98s to take the silver medal, narrowly missing out on the gold by 0.05s to a championship equalling performance by the winner.
