Medals galore for the juvenile track & field squad

The NDAC girls were the stars of the show at the NI & Ulster U14-U17 Age Group championships which took place at Mary Peters track on Saturday 11th June.

Top performers on the day were Katie & Amy Kimber, Rachel McCann & Zac Moraghan who all took home three medals each.

Amy Kimber won gold in the U16 girls discus & javelin with throws of 21.69m & 24.45m respectively and in only her second hammer competition improved her PB and took the silver medal with a throw of 17.14m. Not to be outdone, her sister Katie Kimber took a full house of medals in U14 girls. After setting a PB of 28.16s in the heats of the 200m and in the final she showed great determination down the home straight to take gold with a time of 28.62s. She followed this up with two more PBs to win silver in the 80m (11.04s) & bronze in the javelin (20.30m).

In the U16 girls, Rachel McCann showed further improvement, also setting PBs in all three of her events. Rachel finished second behind Irish Schools medalist Anna McAuley in both the 100m (13.14s) & 200m (26.49s) before finishing off with a bronze medal in the long jump with a best jump of 4.78m

Leading the medal haul on the boys side, was possible multi-eventer Zac Moraghan who also set PBs in each of his three events. He started the day with a gold in the U14 boys 75mH in 12.33s, which was followed up with silver in the javelin with a best of 36.88m before finishing off with another silver in the 200m in 27.38s.

Aimée Johnston 6th U15 girls 100m (14.09) & 7th 200m (27.95)

Leah McClements 6th U15 girls TJ (8.28m) & 8th 200m (28.78).
