Michael McConkey won the javelin title on the first day of the AAI Senior Championships at Santry. Michael threw a new pb of 63.69m with all the throws he took exceeding 60 metres – 61.89, 63.69, X, X, 62.29, 61.99. Remarkably he becomes only the 2nd Javelin Champion since 1983 as Terry McHugh did not defend his unique 21 year streak. Michael Dyer at 800m and John Saulters at 400m ran but neither made the Sunday Final.
