[Not a valid template]There were some big results on Wednesday at an inevitably muddy Delamont Country Park in the County Down Schools Cross Country Championships with the North Down big names cruising into the Ulster Schools event. Murphy Miller (Strathearn) started the ball rolling with a win in the 1 lap Mini race in 6:34 min. No surprise after last Saturday in Lurgan Park that Katie Moore (Bloomfield) would be the hot tip in the girls Senior race and she came in first in 7:59 with nearly half a minute to spare. Chloe Johnston ( Strathearn) also qualiied in 8th in 8:45. In the Minor Girls, Mollie Brown (Glenlola) was 2nd in 6:19 with Jessica Scott (Lagan Coll) 6th and sister Anna Scott 7th in 6:41 and 6:50. In the Junior Girls Lauren Hamilton (Regent) was 2nd in 5:40 and Nia McNally (Sullivan) 3rd in 6:51. The boys had a hard act to follow.

In the 3 lap Junior race Craig McMeechan (BGS) had a big gap behind the leaders after the 1st lap but he progressively ran them, just failing to snatch the lead at the end but was a good 2nd in 18:25. With BGS 2 points off 3rd, Reece Simpson was left sweating on qualification with 17th in 19:56, but seems OK once qualified team members are taken out. Better known for his sprinting, Aaron Sexton (BGS) was another to have fine run and was 2nd in the Minor Boys in 5:52. Corey Brown (Down High) was 8th in the 4 lap Senior Boys race. John McNally (Sullivan) was 7th Mini Boy and Charles McNutt (BGS) 14th at the 2 lap Junior Boys race.
