Catherine Roberts took advantage of the fast, flat course at this year’s Newry half marathon to record a pb time of 1:30:32 and finish 5th. Keith Gilmore followed in 1:34:47 and Sarah Benton finished on 1:41:31. Pat O’Driscoll completed the course in 2:51:44.
Elsewhere Edinburgh was the venue for this week’s marathon racing and associated races. Gavin Jones completed the full marathon in a respectable 3:33:52 while Pamela Phillips raced the half marathon in a time of 1:39:52. Sharp running after her Runher podium finish on Friday.
The Irish milers club latest meeting was at Mary Peters track on Saturday. Several of our athletes were participating in an effort to secure a pb. One notable success in the mens 800M B race was Jakob Swann who recorded a magnificent 1:58:56 to lower his pb by 4 seconds. Reece Simpson broke the 2 min barrier over 800M as he recorded 1:59:56, 2 seconds quicker than before. Rio Catney also knocked 2 seconds off her pb with a time of 5:09:25 in the 1500M and Jessica Craig got even closer to the 10 min mark in the 3k recording 10:04. In the same 800M race, E, Nick Irvine improved on his pb with 2:07:18, John Ewing lowered his previous by 1 one hundredth of a second on 2:08:29 and Jack Bradshaw made his debut at the distance clocking 2:14:20. In the mens 1500M Jamie McMeechan pb’d for the second time in the space of 10 days recording 4:30:38.
