The NI & Ulster Even Age Group Championships took part this weekend in the beautiful setting of Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor. The park is nestled between the mountains and the sea and provided a fantastic venue for cross country racing and North Down were represented by 7 young athletes in the age group races.
In the U14 girls Molly Brown had a great run to finish 17th of 67 (in 10:14) with Lauren Hamilton 50th in 11:06. Charles McNutt closely matched Molly’s performance in the U14 boys with 23rd of 76 (in 9:08). In the U16 races, Zara Mulholland came home 32nd (15:57) in the girls while in the boys Charlie Quinn placed a fine 27th (13:28) with Ciaran Farren 49th (14:24).
Katie Moore was always in the mix for 4th/5th in the U18 girls 4k, eventually settling for 5th place (in 17:03). Corey Brown moved up to the U18 boys and held his own with 17th in 19:28 for the 5k undulating course. With several athletes making their XC debut for North Down or the age-group races, the event provided great experience and all should improve with continued training and racing.
