The Northern Ireland and Ulster Indoor Championships were held at the weekend at the Odyssey filling the morning and Saturday afternoon slots. There were more pbs and more medals with Matthew Martin winning the U17 shot with 12.33m and Beth Wilson 2nd in the U16 shot with 9.53m. Niall McGrattan was unlucky to have what looked a good putt disallowed which would have medalled and he finished 4th in the U15 boys shot with a pb of 9.60m. Matthew Hamilton has been out of the long jump for well over a year with injuries and his 5.37m, though modest, was 2nd in the U16 event and he was also 3rd at 60m with another pb of 7.62 sec. Glen Willis had an indoor pb at U16 800m with 2:09.83 min and was 4th overall but 3rd in the Ulster Championships. Mark Widdowson ran26.33 sec in the U15 200m heats but pulled up injured in the final. Alex Catherwood was 6th in the U15 high jump.
