Mark Lewis Francis topped the bill at a chilly North Down Games, producing a classy sprint double in 10.21 and 20.78 and dispelling any doubt over his 200m ability. Fellow GB International and regular visitor Joice Maduaka also did the sprint double in 11.41 and 23.54. Another regular visitor, Haitian girl Nadine Faustin won the 100m hurdles for the third year in a row while David Gillick, who won the European Indoors for Ireland, took the 400m in 46.72.
Best local results were in the field where Zoe Brown and North Down’s Eva Massey again exceeded the Commonwealth standards, Zoe winning the vault with 4.10m and Eva putting 15.36m for 2nd behind classy Czech girl Jana Karnikova who had 16.81m. Scot Shirley Webb broke the NI all-comers record
four times in winning a good hammer competition with 66.13m. Latvian Voldemars Lusis won the javelin with a huge 80.53m throw with Michael McConkey throwing consistently.
