Granted Monday was a fine evening despite the inevitable headwind down the home straight but there was a good turnout for the North Down Ac Post Olympic Meeting at the Sportsplex. It does seem to show that there is an appetite for the track in August, certainly in the age groups, and the club is hoping to stage another meet on the 28th. City of Lisburn requested hurdles and not only produced a field but organised the hurdles races themselves so we thank them for that. Several other clubs also turned up with athletes with the Annadale pair of Dave Moorwood and Mark Wright leading the 3000m.
For North Down, the middle distance girls are always up for a race and they were led home by Jessica Craig in the 1500m with a pb of 4:46.19. Andrew Mellon would have wished for a stiffer test in the 100m and 400m but it was still good preparation for the AAA’s at the weekend. One to catch the eye was 12 year old Aaron Sexton who would seem to have inherited his father’s speed plus an endurance factor in the 1500m.
With the infield out of use this week for the ongoing Rose Bowl football tournament, Monday’s meeting was track-only.
