The first of three open meetings for athletes of primary school age was held at Bangor Sportsplex on Wednesday. The threatened rain held off and a good entry enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The North Down programme provided the bulk of the entries along with local schools and from Orangegrove, Willowfield and City of Lisburn. A big thank you to the volunteers, whether coaches, parents or athletes but particularly to those who competed earlier in the Schools Districts and then came along to support their younger comrades.
The meeting was held on the run-jump-throw principle and all tound athletes who stood out included Barney Miller at P5, Matthew Campbell, Megan Drummond and Katie Kimber at P6, and at P7 Jonny Moore, Zac Moraghan and Annabel McNutt. The most impressive single event performance was Amelia Tyler’s runaway 1:52.6 min in the P6 girls 600m
The next meeting in the series will be on Wednesday 21st May
