PB for Pete at Tenerife International Decathlon

Tue 29 May 2012 Barry Scarth

At the International Decathlon  in Tenerife at the weekend, Pete Glass backed up his 2nd place finish from last year with a fourth this year, despite stiffer competition. A lot of top GB names were in attendance this year and Pete managed to get the better of most of them.  Pete finished with a new PB of 7279. A time 6 seconds faster in the 1500m would have secured a new NI  native record of 7324, currently held by Brendan McConville. Tom Reynolds  was going really well and was on for a similar score to Pete until he failed to get a height in the pole vault. Tom was also nursing a number of injuries and so decided not to complete the remaining events.

Pete’s score included personal bests in pole vault and javelin and seasons bests in 100m, long jump, shot and high jump. He was 4th after one event, 10th after two, then ninth and seventh at the end of the first day with 3703. The second day was all up, from sixth to fifth to second after the vault and javelin. As ever with Pete, the 1500m caught him out.
Tom had seasons bests at long jump, shot and 400m. At the end of the first day, he was well placed with  3738 pointsp
