Peter Glass became the 6th Northern Ireland athlete to reach the Consideration Standard for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games at the weekend when he won the Senior Decathlon in Scotstoun over the weekend with a new Northern Ireland native record of 7510 points. Pete had a virtually mistake-free weekend in perfect conditions aided by pbs in all 3 throws, shot, discus and javelin, plus another at 1500m. Guesting in the same competition, Brendan McConville who becomes a master in January and was in his first decathlon for 8 years, scored 6547 points and becomes a huge favourite for the decathlon next month at the World Police and Fire Games.
Pete’s results were 100m 11.98 sec (0.0), long jump 6.88m (0.0), shot 14.20 (pb), high jump 1.99m, 400m 51.99m. On the second day they were 110m hurdles 14.95 sec (1.6), discus 45.05m (pb), pole vault 4.60m, javelin 56.61m (pb), 1500m 4:51.08 min (pb). In the same order and with the same windspeeds, Brendan had 12.16 sec, 6.44m, 12.19m,1.78m, 51.79 sec, 16.05 sec, 33.44m, 4.60m, 44.58m, 4:33.51 min.
